Options for dental health (the process I choose, can skip)

As an international graduate student at UTK, the student health insurance is provided by United Healthcare. However, the dental insurance ($18.68 Est. monthly) is excluded, which can be added in student’s health insurance plan every year at the beginning of the fall semester.

After discussing with the administration at UTK Student Health Center, the staff shared the following options (see fig below) for students who plan to receive the teeth cleaning service twice a year (For whom has other requirements, e.g., orthodontics, caries, etc. needs to find help from other places). The staff highly recommended the second option - KNOX COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT for the friendly price. Thus, this post mainly introduces the KNOX COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT based on my personal experience.

The potential options for students provided by the administration at UTK Student Health Center.

Make an appointment

• Face-to-face appointment begin every Wednesday morning 8:00 AM (Recommended, especially for the first-time patient);

  Phone call appointment begin Wednesday morning 8:15 AM.

• Materials required when making the appointment:

  • Proof of residency in Knox County
  • Proof of identity: photo ID
  • Proof of household income such as a W2, tax return, food stamp letter, social security, disability, unemployment, retirement, or your last 2 pay stubs.

• Forms to fill out (Time can be saved by printing the following forms and bringing them with you to your appointment.)

  • Patient Agreement (English/Espanol)
  • KCHD Privacy Agreement Form (English/Espanol)
  • Medical History Form (English/Espanol)
